Brno's ossuary
The Brno ossuary is located below James square, mostly under St. James's Church. The remains of the deceased from the abolished cemetery in Petrov, Brno, were also transferred to this ossuary. When the cemetery was abolished at the end of the 18th century, the ossuary was closed and forgotten for a long time. It was only discovered in 2001 during the archaeological survey of the square. It contains up to 50,000 skeletal remains. It is the second largest ossuary in Europe, after Paris catacombs.
